Just Cuts New Plymouth Owner takes top 2020 business prizes

Laurie Broomhall of Just Cuts New Plymouth has taken out the top award at the NZ Just Cuts 2020 Franchise virtual award ceremony.
Laurie received both the prestigious Franchisee of the Year Award and the Best Practice Award.
The Centre City salon was also named in the top 10 for retail sales, with 28 Just Cuts salons in NZ.
A locked mystery box was sent to each owner prior to the evening, then during the virtual ceremony the winners were given the code to unlock their padlocked boxes.
“This award belongs to my team. All my stylists are fully qualified, highly experienced hairdressers who’ve worked so hard during a year like no other. I’m so proud of them,” said Laurie.
“I also have to thank the local community for their support of my small business. Since re-opening it’s been so busy I’m already looking for another Stylist.”
The win was bittersweet for Laurie, who not only navigated her small business through COVID-19 shutdowns and safety regulations in 2020, but also lost her husband of 40 years, Paul, to cancer.
“While Paul died in April this year during the COVID lockdown, I know he would’ve been proud of our win. Paul’s passing was a huge loss for our family & friends, but once we reopened the salon 7 days a week post lockdown I’ve just kept busy and carried on looking after my team and our clients.”
Laurie thanked Just Cuts for their ongoing support for her small business during 2020.
