JUST CUTS at The Hub Hornby has a new temporary team member for 8 weeks in 19 year old Kahlia Patu.
Just Cuts Hornby Owners Angela and Michael Turner were happy to help Kahlia gain valuable experience in the hairdressing industry with Ara Institute.
“Kahlia has always been interested in Hair and Beauty and when she told her Supervisors at Ara this, they went in search of a possible employer to give her some support and guidance,” said Angela.
“My team were more than happy to have Kahlia join them for her 8 week Work Experience venture. She has adapted to her new environment wonderfully and is greeting clients, assisting with product sales and helping the Stylists on the floor. And she is even mastering their slightly tricky in-house computer system!”
The NZ Certificate for Skills for Living for Supported Learners (Level 1) with the optional stand in Skills for Working is a programme that is offered through Ara Institute of Canterbury.
The aim of this programme is to provide adult students who have a learning disability the skills required to obtain and maintain employment.
Ara have a number of students who have successfully completed the first stage of this qualification and are now doing the optional Work Strand.
“They are passionate about gaining paid employment once they have finished their studies at Ara. Each student is highly motivated, enthusiastic and determined to succeed,” added Angela.
“Ara are always looking for new placements for their students and look forward to hearing from anyone who would be interested in joining their programme.”
“I encourage local business to get on board and give youth a foot in the door, as a temporary placement can have a lasting impact on their career.”
